CHEF MATT MISKO OF THE MENTONE SPRINGS HOTEL TO APPEAR ON FOX 6 GOOD MORNING ALABAMA
Misko shares seasonal secrets and prepares favorite fall recipes

October 10, 2013---Mentone, Alabama--- Executive Chef of The Mentone Springs Hotel, Matt Misko, will be appearing on FOX 6 Good Morning Alabama’s cooking segment. Misko will be sharing his seasonal secrets and one of his favorite fall recipes that will be served at the hotel during this autumn’s harvest.

Misko will be preparing a new specialty pizza from The Rusty Fox Canteen that is made with three different mushrooms, goat cheese and artichokes. All ingredients are locally grown, which is something Chef Matt and the hotel pride themselves on.

“Pizzas are very versatile and fun to make,” said Misko. “I love to get creative with the ingredients and it is wonderful to have so many meats and veggies that are grown from local farmers. It is always important to know where your food is actually coming from and how it has been produced.”

Specializing in agriculture while attending Auburn University, Misko retains an extensive knowledge of food chemistry and how to get produce from the farm to the table--consider him a cooking connoisseur. Misko prepares his food with care and creativity. Misko has already acquired over ten years of experience in the restaurant business and his achievements keep growing.

Misko oversees the hotel’s two restaurants, Alice’s at the Springs and the Rusty Fox Canteen. Alice’s is a white tablecloth restaurant that specializes in treating its guest to an elegant farm-to-table experience, serving blackened catfish, crab cakes and its signature whiskey rib eye along with fresh vegetables, salads and house-made deserts.

The Rusty Fox Canteen has a pub-like atmosphere and is known for its gourmet hand tossed pizzas. It is located in the downstairs of the Mentone Springs Hotel. According to local legend, the Rusty Fox Canteen is where the bootleggers used to meet up when running whisky between Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia during prohibition. Both restaurants have live, local music on Friday and Saturday nights –while guests enjoy crisp, cool air and eating outdoors on the hotel’s porches.

“The hotel is preparing for its 130th anniversary next year,” said Misko. “I love being able to work somewhere with such a historical atmosphere. We have great plans in store for next year’s celebration.”
